Naknek River - Katmai Trophy Lodge 2026

Join guide and casting instructor Jeff Liskay, along with Tim Arsenault of Bridge, for an unforgettable pursuit of steelhead-sized rainbow trout in Alaska’s Bristol Bay this fall. The Naknek River offers an unparalleled opportunity to catch some of the world’s largest rainbows using two-handed rods and swung flies, pushing conventional ideas about trout spey to their most extreme. On the Naknek, where rainbows can stretch past 30 inches, traditional 3 to 5 weight trout spey setups give way to 7, 8, and 9-weight two-handed rods.

At the heart of the adventure is Katmai Trophy Lodge, which sits perfectly along the banks of the mighty Naknek, providing quick access each morning to its best riffles, runs, and pools. In addition to swinging the river’s broad, powerful currents from shore, the lodge’s fleet of jet boats are purpose-built for spey casting from the boat, allowing anglers to cover every piece of promising holding water. Combining both approaches maximizes your chances of connecting with one of the Naknek’s true monster rainbows - legendary fish that make this destination one of the most coveted in Alaska.
